The Early Twenties
Notes to myself.
So 25, here we are, two months in. No longer in the 18-24 age range category. Ok, moving up in the world. 1 year older, 1 year wiser. I'm sure of it. I'm sure I've learned more in the last few years than the previous 20.
What did my early twenties teach me though? So many tough, but valuable lessons. So many tears, so much laughter, and so much heartache. It is really true that as you get older your friends become few, but even more valuable.
The pain of losing a loved one is unbearable, but somehow you move on. I don't know how, but you do. The pain will never go away, but you learn to deal with it. Major lesson, check.
It is also true that working for yourself is way more exhausting, but way more rewarding. #Girlboss Cheers to the countless hours of homework completed behind the counter of my first job as a car wash cashier. Couldn't have made it this far without it!
Lesson number...? People come and go. People who you thought would be there for you, abandon you. People you thought you could trust, deceive you. People you love, don't always love you back.
Fact. There is life after college, and it doesn't happen in a bar. Nothing good happens in a bar. Curling up at home is often better than a night out, and sleep slowly climbs to the top of the list of priorities.
The early twenties also taught me that life moves faster as you get older. Our parents warned us. Really where did January go?
Want to know a secret?
The most crucial guidelines that I will take away from the early twenties aren't guidelines at all. They are truths. They are what keep us going, what drive us to achieve our goals, and what allow us to continue to love, to continue to fall, and to continue to rise up.
Ready for this?
Most important of all, you must appreciate the moments you have, the people you love, and the good times. You must follow your heart, trust your gut, and believe in yourself. It's really that simple. No matter what you face, what hurts or how much, you have to keep going. For you, for those you love, and because life is pretty darn special. You better get out there and live it! It's flying by, right in front of your eyes. Don't miss it!
Here's to 25. I know it's going be the best year yet!
