Let's get real.
Some of you have been following me for a while, and some of you have just joined my journey with J. Isabel Designs. Admittedly, you have all been a big inspiration and some of my most powerful motivation. This journey has been tough, but one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences at the same time. To be able to do something that you love, and express yourself creatively is a gift that I will not take for granted. I have been in business for almost a year and a half now, and boy has it been a roller coaster. I am not going to sugarcoat it in any way, it has been rough. Owning your own business, nurturing it every day, and working through the slow times, the busy times, the frustration, and the tears, is something that you do not expect. When going into it, you are full of optimism and high hopes that your dreams will come true over night. Hate to burst your bubble, but that is just not the case. Now before I freak you out and sound like a total Debbie downer, let me clarify that even with all of the ups and downs, I would not want to be doing anything else!

I absolutely love what I do! Yes, I have my bad days, but I still jump with joy with every gift that I get to see going out the door. I love meeting new people, connecting with fellow creatives, and collaborating on fun projects! I love interacting with my followers, reading sweet messages from people who tell me that I inspire them and that they love to follow my journey, and I love to be an example of how hard work can pay off if you just keep going. Now when I said earlier that all of the negatives were unexpected, I sure did not expect all of the love and support that I would receive either. There is so much beautiful energy to be discovered in a creative community that pushes you to do better, to explore more, and to let more of yourself out into the world. Instagram is extremely frustrating most days, but without that platform, I would not be where I am today. I would not know the wonderful people that I know, I would not be as inspired to chase my own dreams after following others wrangle theirs, and I would not have the support of lovely individuals like you.
Now let's get real. For the past few weeks I have been feeling a little down, a little lost, and as much as I do not want to admit, a little unmotivated. . As I was discussing these feelings with some of the individuals in my lovely community, many of them (or you) suggested taking quiet time to yourself and writing down how I have been feeling. Well, here I am. I do admit that I am already starting to feel better about these emotions and this head space that I am in, because I know that I am not alone. I know that other small business owners, and bloggers, and individuals, are feeling the exact same way, and that it is totally normal. I know that I will get out of this funk and be back to creating amazing things again in no time.
Some days it seems like I have not accomplished a lot over the last year and half, but looking back on the new products I have created and begun to use, the people I have worked with, the gifts I have created, and the feelings that I have given people the ability to share with their loved ones, I have to realize that I have accomplished a lot of amazing things. It is often hard to pat yourself on the back and say great job when you still have so much left you want to do and want to give, but you have to be proud of yourself every step of the way!
If you are a fellow small business owner, a reader, or just someone who stumbled upon this lovely little diary of my thoughts, I would hope that you would be inspired. Inspired to keep going no matter what or who is holding you back. You could be holding yourself back, you just never know. I would hope that you would be motivated to chase your own dreams, pursue a path that you may have never envisioned, and embrace all of the crazy ideas that your heart and mind work together to create. These things are your passions, your calling, and the reason you jump out of bed everyday. Let's not silence them any longer.
Keep dreaming big my lovely friends. No matter how crazy, or wild, or time consuming, your dreams are absolutely worth pursuing!
