It takes hours to prep an Instagram post?

Today I was getting ready to post a new photo to Instagram, and I thought to myself "wow, this takes a lot of time for one post!" I figured it would be interesting to detail how much actually goes into one post, and how much work it is to maintain a consistent posting schedule on at least one social media platform. How many of us also have Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook? 🙋🏼 I see you, you hardworking guys and gals. 😉 Step one of this process is thinking up your content. Are you posting for a holiday? A specific theme? A quote? For me, most of my posts are either photos I have taken with an inspiring quote, or gift boxes I have made. After considering what you want to post, next you have to take the actual photo. (This is half the battle right here! I am super picky about my photos! ) Is this a landscape scene? A cup of coffee? Maybe it requires props, perfect lighting, extra hands, and multiple takes? Whew! Who knew right? After you finally select the perfect image, now you have to edit it to your liking. Do you have a specific feed aesthetic? Do you like bold pops of color, or are you more into neutral tones? Personally, I think it is crucial to make sure your image fits your style no matter how it actually photographed.

VSCO

My favorite app to edit my photos is VSCO. I have been using it for a few years now and I absolutely love the filters and tools that you can use to edit your heart away! I am really into contrast and exposure, so the process of selecting the right filter and adjusting my image to perfection is a lengthy one in itself. Thanks OCD.

Secret tip: Select a filter that you love and use it on every photo to make your photos more consistent and your feed visually satisfying. (You know, if that's what you are going for!) 😄

The caption. 😳

After the image is all settled and saved, now I work to create my caption. Do I want to go with something quirky, cute, funny, inspiring? Typically I try to keep it light, but I also want to make sure my followers find my posts interesting right?! :D My favorite part of the caption? The emojis! My faves are the confetti, the hearts, and that girl that I am not always sure what she is doing with her hand, but I feel like it represents some sass. LOL

Ok, caption check. Omg guys the hardest part of this whole process? Hashtags! 😂 Let me tell you, when I first joined Instagram with just a personal account, I absolutely despised the little buggers. Now, I have learned that it is absolutely necessary to get your content noticed, and to find where your posts fit in with your target audience. I might be a little hashtag obsessed now! Sorry in advance.

#Hashtags

Ok hashtags...You can't just put anything up there and expect it to work. You really have to select the right ones to portray the right message, reach the right people, and share your creative content in the right ways. Oh and don't forget the five little dots that must accompany your caption. Or if you prefer to post your hashtags in the comments. Ive done both depending on my mood. LOL

So here you can see this was obviously my recent birthday box! Got some of my favorite hashtags, a few related to the content, and a few that I also love to follow along and want to be a part of!

Secret tip: Instagram has recently released a multiple photos feature! Different angles of your scene or product can be fun for your followers and allows more opportunities to get your message across.

Also, can't forget to mention the shop link in bio! 😉

P.S. One of the hardest parts of this process is when I post the photo and the entire caption deletes itself! Oh my goodness talk about frustrating! Don't get caught making that mistake, but if you do...

Secret tip: Always select your entire caption and copy it before you post. That way if it decides to spontaneously disappear like mine commonly do you can just edit the post and paste it. BOOM! Take that Instagram glitch!

So there you have it! How long does one post take you ask? Quite a while! The best part of this process? Once you finally get your post up and you are happy with it, your friends and followers can share the excitement with you! Try out this app and these secret tips and let me know how it is similar or different to your posting process!
