I am thankful...
Right around this time of year, we start to think of the things that we are thankful for. Maybe it is because we are reminded of those things when our families come together, when we feel more connected, and when we experience more intimate settings around the holidays. Maybe it's because your mom asked you to come up with something around the dinner table, or maybe it's simply because you are trying to think of something interesting to post on Instagram. 🤷🏼♀️ Either way, it is important to remember the things that we are grateful for, and to truly appreciate them today, and every day.
We go through our daily lives so focused on the next task, the next meal, the next post, that we often forget to take a step back and truly appreciate what we have. Sure we love our cars and our cell phones and our houses, but you must look at it deeper than that. What can you truly not live without? I mean really. I love me some good highlighter and mascara, but those things do not mean sh*t compared to the love of your family, the depths of your friendships, and the the smaller details of your life. When you close the door to the outside world at the end of the day, what really matters to you? Who or what comforts you? Is it your dog? Your husband? Your children? Is it that phone call from your best friend?
Please don't say your iPhone ( even though it might seem like this is comforting most days LOL) , don't say your television, and definitely do not convince yourself that it is an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians.
You know that question that people have always asked...what would you bring with you to a deserted island? Apart from the typical food...water...fire starter...what would your answer be?
For some of us, it might be someone to keep us company. Someone who knows how to calm us down in stressful situations, or someone who knows all the right things to say and do. We all have a person. We all have those people who we look to for companionship, for love, for guidance, and to drink with us so we don't have to drink alone. ( Could also be someone to eat a whole pizza with us too...just saying. 😉) These people are our reasons why, our loved ones, our soul mates, our friends, and our sanity.
When asked what I am thankful for, I will start by saying this...I am thankful for the support of my family and friends, both of which keep me going every day. I am fortunate enough that most of my friends have also become family, and I truly know that I have people to count on. I am also thankful for the support of my creative community who believes in my dreams just as much as I do. I am thankful for my dogs who show me unconditional love, no matter what. I am thankful for my education not only in a textbook sense, but from every lesson that I learn in everyday life. I am thankful for the people who have shown me both love and betrayal, for it has taught me more about myself and about life than I ever could have learned on my own. I am thankful for the hard days, rough times, and transitional periods where growth through pain was necessary to get me to where I am today. I am beyond thankful to be able to do what I love every day with my business, and to be able to wake up, head to the gym, clear my mind, and start out each day with a fresh perspective.
I am thankful for the person I am today. The person that has grown, changed, learned, loved, lost, gained, and never gave up through it all.
I am also truly appreciative for a warm cozy house on a cold winter's day. I am thankful for the gorgeous ocean view I have when I step outside onto the front porch of my house. I am thankful for the warm bed I cuddle into every night, and the moments I get to spend with my family when the craziness of the day settles down. Most important of all, I am thankful for a fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookie. JUST KIDDING. About the most important part...😂
Seriously though, I am really happy.
I am blessed. I am loved. I am grateful.
Now think about it...what are you really thankful for?
Happy Thanksgiving loves! I hope you are enjoying your time off with loved ones! Oh, and I hope there is a TON of pumpkin pie! ;)
